Hydrocodone side effects

Hydrocodone act in the central nervous system (CNS) to relieve pain. Some of their side effects are also caused by actions in the CNS.

Although side effects from acetaminophen and hydrocodone are not common, they can occur. Tell your doctor if any of these symptoms are severe or do not go away:

  • lightheadedness, tiredness, dizziness
  • drowsiness
  • upset stomach
  • dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, or decreased appetite
  • constipation
  • stomach pain
  • rash
  • muscle twitches
  • sweating
  • itching
  • difficulty urinating
  • decreased sex drive

If you experience either of the following symptoms, stop taking hydrocodone and acetaminophen and seek emergency medical attention or contact your doctor immediately:

  • an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
  • slow, weak breathing;
  • seizures;
  • cold, clammy skin;
  • severe weakness or dizziness;
  • unconsciousness;
  • yellowing of the skin or eyes;
  • unusual fatigue, bleeding, or bruising.
